Bio

Sandy Tolan is a radio and print journalist who has reported around the world. He is the author of two books, produced hundreds of documentaries and features for NPR and Public Radio International, and has written for the New York Times Magazine, the Nation, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, the Christian Science Monitor, and dozens of other publications. A central focus of his work has been the intersection of land conflicts, racial and ethnic identity, natural resources, and the global economy. Tolan is also a co-founder of Homeland Productions an independent documentary production company. He has won an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Silver Baton, three Robert F. Kennedy awards, a United Nations Gold Medal award, and two honors from the Overseas Press Club. Tolan is also Associate Professor at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, where one of his classes is producing a series for California Watch.
